The City of Loveland has partnered with Simple Recycling to collect recyclable textiles curbside. Recyclable textiles include: clothing, footwear, accessories, towels, bedding, drapery, etc. Items must be dry and clean. No wet or moldy items will be collected. The following items will not be accepted for pickup: appliances, furniture, tires, paint, carpeting, mattresses, traditional recyclables (metal, glass, paper), hazardous waste, and liquids. The service will follow the same schedule and route structure as the traditional recycling pick-up. The vehicle used for pick-up is a similar to a Cargo Van.
Eligible participants include only single-family households. Multi-tenant occupancies with dumpsters are not eligible. The initial distribution of the bags will come by way of traditional mail with a post card. Those eligible and desiring to participate in the service will then mail back the postcard to Simple Recycling. Eligible participants are issued two (2) orange plastic bags per month on a recurring month-to-month basis.
At the time the bag(s) are picked up, two new bags will be distributed. Additional bags can be requested free of charge. Once a bag is picked up, the materials are then graded and sorted. Top quality materials are resold to local thrift outlets; mid-grade materials are exported to international markets; and unusable items are processed for raw materials.
Loveland residents who currently donate items to charity are encouraged to continue to do so. The partnership with Simple Recycling is not meant to replace current donations to local charities, but rather, to collect materials that are currently going to the landfill.
Assistant City Manager, Tom Smith added that "the uniqueness of the program provides an easy, convenient, and cost-free option for residents to dispose of their unwanted household textiles in a manner that is useful and positive".
