[ARCHIVED] City of Loveland Announces New Fire Station to be Named in Honor of Chief Otto Huber

New Firestation

LOVELAND, OHIO (September 24, 2025) — The City of Loveland is proud to announce that its new fire station, currently under construction at 220 E. Loveland Avenue, will be named in honor of longtime Loveland-Symmes Fire Department Chief Otto Huber.

The new facility will replace Historic Downtown’s Station 63, which has stood at the intersection of East Loveland Avenue/State Route 48. Once complete, the modern fire station will bear Chief Huber’s name, a tribute to his decades of dedicated service and leadership within the community. This was announced at the City Council Meeting on evening of September 23rd

Chief Otto Huber has led the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department with distinction for 50 years, earning recognition at the local, state, and national levels for his commitment to public safety. In 2023, he received the prestigious Ohio Fire Service Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Department of Commerce and State Fire Marshal’s Office, honoring his visionary leadership and dedication to firefighter training and safety. Most recently, he was awarded the Alan Brunacini Fire Service Executive Safety Award, one of the highest honors in the fire service, recognizing his focus on firefighter safety, health, and leadership excellence. Under his guidance, the department has advanced community fire protection while building strong partnerships with residents, local organizations, and regional agencies. Chief Huber’s legacy is defined not only by his professional achievements but also by his steadfast devotion to the Loveland community he has faithfully served.

“Chief Huber’s contributions to the safety of our city over his 50 years of service made naming the new station in his honor an easy decision,” said Mayor Kathy Bailey. “He has led a team of dedicated firefighters who understand the importance of customer service and consistently put the safety of the community first.”

The $5.4-million construction project is being funded through the United States Department of Agriculture’s Community Facility Loan Program, which offers competitive rates and is projected to save the City more than $1 million over the life of the loan.

The new fire station will be more than 10,000 square feet, offering features designed for safety, efficiency, and long-term growth. Amenities include:

  • Two pull-through apparatus bays and one back-in bay
  • Multiple road entry points (O’Bannon Avenue and East Loveland Avenue)
  • Training rooms, full living quarters, and office space
  • Ample storage for fire and EMS equipment

Construction officially began in November 2024 with Graybach LLC serving as the contractor. Progress has steadily advanced with exterior walls now taking shape. The station is on track to be completed on schedule.

The City has assembled a highly capable construction team including Chief Huber, Assistant City Manager Chris Wojnicz, and LSFD Executive Officer Bruce Hawk. Together, they are ensuring the project is completed efficiently and with minimal disruption to residents.

Once complete, the Otto J. Huber Fire Station will stand as both a vital public safety asset and a lasting legacy honoring the Chief who devoted his career to protecting and serving the community.
