[ARCHIVED] Council Members Take Oaths of Office

City Council held an organizational meeting Dec. 4 to administer oaths of office and select the roles of mayor and vice mayor.

First, Ohio Supreme Court Justice Joseph Deters administered oaths of office to Council Members Kathy Bailey, Andy Bateman, and Brian Goodyear. All three were voted to City Council in the November 2023 election. Bailey and Bateman were re-elected to their seats, and Goodyear was elected to fill Kent Blair’s seat. Blair did not run for re-election.

Next, City Council nominated a mayor. Council Member John Hart nominated Bailey, noting her hard work, dedication, and effort behind the scenes to help secure grant opportunities for the city. The nomination was seconded by Council Member Ted Phelps, and the members voted 7-0 to reappoint Bailey as mayor.

Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Powers administered the mayor’s oath of office.

“Thank you for your continued trust in me. Loveland has made unbelievable progress in recent years. I believe this is due to the cohesiveness amongst Council members and the respect members have for each other. We have a shared vision,” Bailey stated.

Lastly, City Council nominated a vice mayor. Council Member Bateman nominated Phelps for his experience, temperament, openness, and collaboration skills. The motion was seconded by Council Member Neal Oury, and the members voted 7-0 to reappoint Phelps as vice mayor.

Judge Brad Greenberg administered the vice mayor’s oath of office.

“I will continue to be devoted to our goal of high-quality service to residents, visitors, and businesses. This council will continue to build a strong, vibrant, and caring Loveland. Keep moving Loveland forward!” Phelps stated.

As part of the ceremony, the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department (LSFD) presented the colors. LSFD Chaplain Bill Hounshell led the invocation and benediction.
