At the June 26 Council meeting, a contract for the installation of five (5) water main valves in the Loveland Heights was awarded to the Sunesis Construction Company. The project is being funded in full thanks to a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the Hamilton County Planning and Development Department in the amount of $65,000. The new valves will reduce the number of residents impacted by water main breaks in the area, which often results in loss of water service and boil advisories. City Engineer, Cindy Klopfenstein reported to City Council that "reports indicate that there were 28 water main breaks in the Loveland Heights between 2013 and 2017 and that they are becoming more frequent". Mrs. Klopfenstein also reported that "when crews are repairing water main breaks in the area, they are forced to close off valves located several blocks away from the break, unnecessarily impacting a larger than needed number of residents."

Mayor Kathy Bailey stated "the city is pleased to be able to complete such an important project and that we are thankful to Hamilton County for awarding the grant funding.” City Manager David Kennedy added “City staff will continue to aggressively seek grant funding to complete important projects in the city”.

The project is anticipated to begin this summer.
