2021-22 Loveland Valentine Lady Jeanne Shumaker was recognized at the January 26 Loveland City Council meeting.
Shumaker is a lifelong Loveland resident and worked in the medical field for 35 years. She volunteers at the Loveland Museum Center, Sharonville SPCA, and Loveland United Methodist Church. She is also a member and former officer of the Loveland Women’s Club.
“Jeanne is well deserving of the role of Valentine Lady,” commented Mayor Kathy Bailey. “I look forward to the next few years, and I’m glad you’ve joined the ranks of these ladies who represent our city so well.”
Loveland’s Valentine Lady tradition started in the 1970s. Each year, a Valentine Lady is nominated and elected by her peers for her service to the community and volunteerism. The lucky lady serves as an ambassador for the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance’s Valentine program and visits area businesses, schools and senior living facilities to interact with the public.
“Jeanne’s warmth and engaging smile make you feel like you’ve known her forever,” said Peggy Goodwin, the city’s 2006 Valentine Lady who nominated Shumaker.
Due to the pandemic, Shumaker will serve a unique two-year term with hopes she can resume in-person ambassador visits in 2022.
