Posted on: February 14, 2018[ARCHIVED] Bike Trail Connector Feasibility Study Complete
The City of Loveland has received the completed feasibility study from KZF Design for the Pedestrian and Bicycle Feasibility Study. The concept of the Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge Feasibility Study was based on the premise of whether the city could create a bike path from the Loveland Madeira Business Corridor that would allow residents to park at various common parking areas and bike into the downtown district. The intent was to increase visitors into the district, while reducing vehicle traffic and parking. The city was able to secure grant funding in the amount of $19,900 from the Hamilton County Planning and Development Department to conduct the feasibility study.
The feasibility study includes two (2) recommendations based on the path design and the bridge crossing. The recommended path design would include the installation of a ten to twelve foot (10’ – 12’) shared use path along the south side of Loveland Madeira Business Corridor. This location would allow the city to work with area businesses to create designated parking areas for users of the path. The shared use path would travel the length of Loveland Madeira Road to the West Loveland intersection. A crossing at the West Loveland or Wall Street intersection would need to be created as the recommended crossing of the bridge is on the north side and consequently riders need to move to the north side of West Loveland Avenue as they approach the bridge.
While a stand-alone bridge, a modification to the existing bridge to create a cantilever type path were both examined, the most feasible and cost-effective crossing entails the modification of the existing lanes of traffic of the bridge to accommodate an expansion of the existing sidewalk. The north side is the most feasible crossing side as it will allow for less disruption of traffic and an easier left turn exit onto Karl Brown towards Nisbet Park rather than a right onto Karl Brown which has limited right of way and higher amounts of traffic.
