On Tuesday June 25, 2019 Captain Chris Ellis, Firefighter/Paramedic Sean McCallister, Firefighter/EMT Joe Godbey, and Firefighter/EMT Sean Breitenstein of the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department (LSFD) were recognized for their courageous response to an incident that occurred on Friday, May 3rd. On that date these brave members of the LSFD rescued a kayaker who had fallen out of her kayak in the Little Miami River and was hanging onto a branch in order to avoid being swept away by the fast-moving water.
Fire Chief Otto Huber introduced Capt. Ellis and his team as Mayor Bailey presented Capt. Ellis and Firefighter/Paramedic Sean McCallister with the Medal of Valor and the Life Saving Award. Mayor Bailey also presented the Life Saving Award to Firefighter/EMT’s Joe Godbey and Sean Breitenstein. Mayor Bailey expressed her appreciation and gratitude for the brave efforts of Capt. Ellis and his team, and the appreciation she, Council, and the entire community have for all members of the LSFD.
