Warm Weather, Large Crowds for 2024 Hearts Afire Weekend

Ice Sculpture

Love was in the air February 9-11 during the City of Loveland’s third annual Hearts Afire Weekend. The event featured fire, ice, live entertainment, and outdoor decorations. Businesses throughout the city participated with valentine specials and love-inspired activities.

One of the most popular weekend attractions were the ice sculptures. In fact, 34 ice sculptures were on display in Historic Downtown. Attendees could follow along via a digital map to discover the sculptures. Sculptures ranged from characters like Spiderman, Loveland icons like a train, and designs representing businesses. Attendees also had the chance to see live ice carving — four sculptures were carved from 300-pound blocks of ice on Saturday afternoon.

Other popular events around town included Fleet Feet’s Chasing Cupid 5K, speed dating at The Works Brick Oven Restaurant, two evenings of dance lessons, a group vow renewal ceremony with Elvis (AKA Mayor Kathy Bailey), pottery at Whistle Stop Clay Works, fire twirlers, a Taylor Swift friendship bracelet station, painting, Elvis costume contest, and carriage rides. New this year was "Heartbreak Row" set up along Railroad Avenue, featuring a DJ, karaoke, ax throwing, and Cupid photo ops. The grand finale to cap off the evening on Saturday, Feb. 10 was a firework show.

Additionally, Hearts Afire Weekend gave back to the community. The city partnered with the Loveland Stage Company, the local award-winning community theater. Several activities — including a variety show and baby pageant judged by the Loveland Valentine Ladies — were organized to raise funds to replace the Crist Theater’s HVAC system, an estimated $100k replacement cost. The 2024 Royalty were crowned:

Ages 1-2
Little Miss Valentine – Rory Weinkam
Little Mr. Cupid – Beau Ross

Ages 3-4
Miss Valentine – Dawson Joan Beadle

The City of Loveland would like to thank all businesses that purchased ice sculptures and the 2024 Hearts Afire Weekend sponsors: BF Realty; Ian Roewer, Edward Jones Investments; Paxton’s Grill; Ramsey’s Trailside; RP Diamond Printing & Embroidery; and Washing Systems.
