Two new city employees were sworn in at the Aug. 9 City Council meeting.
Michael Gabrielson officially was administered the oath of office as the city’s new police chief. He started his role with the city Aug. 1. Formerly, he was the Assistant Chief of Police with the City of Kettering.
Gabrielson has more than 28 years of experience as a certified peace officer in the State of Ohio and more than 20 years as a law enforcement instructor. He served the citizens of Kettering since 1993, where he began as a patrolman. His responsibilities as the Assistant Chief at Kettering included leading one of two major divisions of the department with special focus on patrol operations, administrative support, community relations, and criminal investigations.

Additionally, Charles Bastin was administered the oath of office. Bastin was hired as the city’s new Assistant Finance Director.
Bastin has a strong background in auditing and financial policy, which will make him an integral member of the city’s budget team. He has completed more than 350 audits for government agencies/municipalities over the course of his career.
